Following the Wenzhou Research Base of the National Finance and Development Laboratory and the Wenzhou “Two Health” Research Institute, another school-site joint research institution, the Wenzhou “Belt and Road Initiative” Research Center, has settled in Wenzhou Business College. The inauguration ceremony was held on May 13. The center is jointly built by the Wenzhou Decision-making Advisory Committee, the Policy Research Office of the Wenzhou Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, the Wenzhou Municipal Bureau of Commerce and the Wenzhou Business College.
Some important figures attended the inauguration ceremony, including Yu Meisheng, director of the Wenzhou Decision-making Advisory Committee and former chairman of the CPPCC, Chen Shengfeng, vice chairman of the CPPCC and deputy director of the Wenzhou Decision-making Advisory Committee, and Lin Chaochao, deputy director of the Municipal Bureau of Commerce, and some other “Belt and Road Initiative” research Center members and researcher representatives from Wenzhou University, Zhejiang Vocational and Technical College of Industry and Trade. Executive president and party secretary of WZBC Zhou Xiangzhe, and director of WZBC’s academic committee Xie Jian, attended the ceremony as well.
Next year will be the 10th anniversary of the “Belt and Road Initiative” proposed by General Secretary Xi Jinping. Yu Meisheng said that Wenzhou is an important node city of the “Belt and Road” with 688,000 Wenzhou people doing business and working in the countries along the “Belt and Road”. It is the inherent requirement of building a strategic node city of the Digital Silk Road and an important starting point for expanding the network channel of the municipal decision-making committee think tank.
WZBC established “Belt and Road” Wenzhou Business Research Center of China in 2017, built a network of expert think tanks, launched a number of key projects and has accumulated good advantages in open economy, financial research and other fields. In particular, it has established good relations with the National Development and Reform Commission, the State Bureau of Commerce, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and other institutions, and has also established effective links with internationally renowned institutions such as Deloitte and PwC. Reports such as “Wenzhou’s Preliminary Conception of Building a Digital Maritime Silk Road Hub City” and “Wenzhou Enterprises’ Risk and Countermeasures by Going Global in the Background of the Russian-Ukrainian Conflict, which were co-written by experts from the center, were successively approved by the main leaders of the Wenzhou municipal party committee and government.
Yu Meisheng hoped that the research center would rely on the talent advantages of our school to further expand and strengthen the team, conduct excellent and refined consulting, do practical and in-depth research, and expand the platform. Starting from the reality of Wenzhou to build a strategic node city on the digital silk road, we need to plan to launch a number of subject projects closely related to the open economy, continuously expand and intensify the exchanges between Wenzhou and the international community, and provide strong intellectual support for Wenzhou’s high-quality construction of the “Belt and Road”.
Zhou Xiangzhe delivered a speech on behalf of WZBC, and expressed his heartfelt thanks to the strong support from party committees and governments at all levels and relevant departments. WZBC insists on serving the local area and closely meets the needs of Wenzhou’s economic and social development. It has also built some well-known talent training bases in recent years. After the establishment of the research center, it will focus on Wenzhou’s high-quality construction of the “Belt and Road”, fully integrate internal and external resources, carry out in-depth, local and forward-looking applied research to promote the city’s high-level opening to the outside world.
It is reported that the research center will start a series of researches on the theme of “building a strategic node city on the Digital Silk Road” in Wenzhou, closely following the two clues of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and the prevention and control of the epidemic. This year, we plan to organize a number of seminars, undertake a number of subject projects, compile and distribute a set of information publications, build a set of communication systems, improve the think tank network, form a number of high-quality results, and discuss the establishment of a research centre in the European Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.
On the same day, the organizer also held a seminar on the participation of Wenzhou enterprises in the construction of the “Belt and Road”. Qi Xin, director of the “Belt and Road” Economic and Trade Cooperation Institute of the Academy of Commerce of the Ministry of Commerce, and Liu Zuokui, deputy director of the European Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, respectively presented the video academic reports “Progress and Prospects of Joint Construction of the Belt and Road Economic and Trade Cooperation” and “Progress and Challenges of China-Europe Joint Construction of the Belt and Road” respectively. Professor Zhang Shijun, Huang Weilun, Yin Hengbin and other professors from the School of Finance and Economics shared their latest research results as well.
The meeting also announced the list of members of the Wenzhou “Belt and Road” Research Center. Director of the Academic Committee of WZBC Professor Xie Jian, , and Dean of the School of Finance and Trade Professor Wang Zhanao, served as the Executive Director. Twenty experts and scholars from Zhejiang University, Wuhan University, Zhejiang University of Technology, Ningbo University, Zhejiang Gongshang University, Shandong University, Wenzhou University, Wenzhou-Kean University, Wenzhou Vocational and Technical College, and Wenzhou Municipal Party School, serve as committee members.
