HOME>About Us>Introducing WZBC

Wenzhou Business College (WZBC) is the only undergraduate business college in southern Zhejiang and northern Fujian, and is located in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, the birthplace of the Yongjia School of Thought and the pioneer of China’s private economy. The campus enjoys a prime location, nestled between the scenic Daluo Mountain, known as the “Green Heart of the City,” to the south, and the “Venice of Southern Zhejiang,” the Sanyang Wetlands, to the north. The picturesque surroundings are enhanced by the college’s proximity to both the airport and the high-speed railway station, each just a 30-minute drive away. The college benefits from shared educational and technological resources within the Daluo Mountain Science and Innovation Corridor and the Wenzhou University Town, ensuring a beautiful environment and state-of-the-art facilities.

The origins of WZBC date back to 1999 with the establishment of the School of Information Science and Engineering and the School of Economics of Wenzhou University. In 2005, these schools merged to form the Wenzhou University City College, with the college name personally inscribed by the renowned mathematician and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Gu Chaohao. Additionally, the distinguished astrophysicist and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Sun Yisui, served as the honorary president. In 2016, with the approval of the Ministry of Education, WZBC became the first independent college in Zhejiang Province to successfully transition into a full-time private general undergraduate university, and was subsequently renamed Wenzhou Business College.

The college currently consists of 8 specialized schools, including the School of Finance and Trade, the School of Management, the School of International Studies, the School of Media and Design Arts, the School of Information Engineering, the City College, the School of General Education, and the School of Marxism. It offers 27 undergraduate programs and 10 associate degree programs, spanning six disciplines: Economics, Management, Literature, Arts, Engineering, and Education. The college boasts a vibrant community of nearly 20,000 students and a dedicated faculty and staff of over 1,100 members. Among the faculty, nearly 450 hold senior professional titles, and over 95% possess master’s or doctoral degrees. In September 2023, WZBC successfully passed the Ministry of Education’s Undergraduate Teaching Work Assessment, receiving high praise from the expert panel for its quality of talent cultivation. It has been approved as a candidate for the new master’s degree conferring college in Zhejiang Province.

WZBC continues the “practical application” philosophy of the Yongjia School of Thought, embraces the pioneering and entrepreneurial spirit of the Wenzhou people, and upholds the school motto of “Persevere and Strive for Excellence.” It also champions the values of “Virtue, Regulation, Pragmatism, and Excellence” in its evaluation and construction efforts. Committed to development driven by quality, distinctiveness, innovation, and safety, the college leverages the advantages of a private education system characterized by “streamlining, efficiency, flexibility, and pragmatism.”Through hard work and bold innovation, it has achieved rapid growth and an increasing reputation in society. WZBC has received several accolades from the Wenzhou Municipal Party Committee, including “Wenzhou Advanced Grassroots Party Organization” and “Advanced Collective for Promoting High-Quality Development in Wenzhou.” Over the past four years, the college has consistently ranked as the top private university in China and the first choice for students in the Wushulian Chinese Private University Rankings. WZBC inherits the Wenzhou people’s tradition of “Great Love Wenzhou, Benevolence Across the World,” focusing on cultivating a unique educational feature of “Benevolence Across the World, Love Throughout the Campus.” The college offers general education courses on “Education of Love,” promoting the organic integration of love education and aesthetic education. It encourages teachers to nurture students with love, treating them as their own children, and organizes students to participate in charitable activities, volunteer services, and the “Love Train” brand activities. This approach aims to cultivate students’ sense of dedication and social responsibility, fostering a deep sense of love, morality, and compassion.

WZBC remains committed to serving the local community, closely aligning with the economic and social development needs of Wenzhou. Leveraging its strengths in business education and talent resources, WZBC strives to build itself into “the leading business college in Wenzhou.” It has established six municipal-level or higher research platforms, including the Wenzhou “Two Health” Research Institute and the Wenzhou “Belt and Road” Research Center. In recent years, faculty members have undertaken more than ten national-level projects, including major and key projects funded by the National Social Science Fund. They have published over 1,500 papers in influential academic journals such as SCI, SSCI, and CSSCI. The college actively participates in the construction of Zhejiang Province’s New Era “Two Health” Pilot Zone, and has developed the country’s first “Two Health” evaluation standard, the Zhejiang Provincial Standard “Evaluation of the Healthy Growth of Private Entrepreneurs.” The college has established several training bases with significant social impact, including the nation’s first Proximity and Integrity Governance and Business School, Wenzhou Rural College, and the Daluo Mountain Cadre Education and Training Center. These bases provide various training programs for government and industry professionals within and outside Zhejiang Province.

WZBC adheres to the strategy of “strengthening the college with talents” and employs various innovative measures to attract high-level and highly skilled professionals. Pioneering among universities nationwide, the college has invested over 100 million yuan to provide commercial supplementary pension insurance for faculty and staff, continuously enhancing their sense of happiness and fulfillment. Today, the entire college community is working diligently and persistently to achieve the goal of becoming a master’s degree-granting college. WZBC is striving to become a benchmark private university with Chinese socialist characteristics, contributing significantly to Wenzhou’s “Strong City Initiative” and Zhejiang’s efforts to build an “Important Window” and a “Demonstration Zone for Common Prosperity.”
