Recently, the 2022 World Young Scientist Summit came to an end in Wenzhou. 51 “Small Organge” Volunteers from WZBC have always been energetic throughout the whole process of volunteer service, providing bilingual translation, information inquiry, venue layout, reception, photography and other services for guests from home and abroad, and have won unanimous praise from guests and organizers.
This year is the fourth year for our school volunteers to serve the World Young Scientist Summit. At the beginning of October, entrusted by the Communist Youth League Committee, the Youth League Committee of WZBC and the Youth League Committee of the School of International Studies worked together to actively do a good job of publicity, recruitment and training in the early stage. In just three days, nearly 500 people signed up. Finally, 51 volunteers were selected through interviews to participate in this service and divided into three groups. They attended online and offline training for more than half a month, including summit overview, volunteer image and etiquette, summit epidemic prevention and control, foreign affairs etiquette and common volunteer service English, large-scale conference volunteer service essentials, etc.
The bilingual service provided by volunteers of our school is a major feature of the Youth Scientist Summit volunteer service. 13 bilingual volunteers served the roundtable of global youth technology leaders all the way. With their excellent oral English and excellent reception services, they performed brilliantly and received a lot of praise. Wu Yuxin, the captain of the bilingual team, said that in order to show the guests the demeanor of WZBC students, everyone has worked hard, not only to be professional, but also to impress the guests with the manners of dealing with people.
There are also some volunteers who have been serving in Nantang, Guangying Wharf, hotels, and helping conduct urban cultural inspections for all participating scientists. Wu Hanbei, who has served for two consecutive years said: “I have participated in the service of the Youth Scienctist Summit for the past two years. I can feel the elegance of the scientists up close, and it is a great honor to provide them with reception services.”
Hu Shiyue, from School of Media and Art Design, is a photography and videography volunteer. She has joined in various campus activities many times during her school days and has good shooting skills. “It is very meaningful to take various pictures for the guests in Wenzhou,” she said.
In recent years, “Small Organge” Volunteers from WZBC have showed up in various large-scale events such as the World Young Scientist Summit, the World Wenzhou People’s Convention, and the Wenzhou Marathon, and have been widely praised for their high-quality volunteer services. They convey the warmth of the city with the most beautiful smiles, serve guests from all over the world with enthusiasm and professionalism, showing the city image of Wenzhou and the demeanor of young volunteers.

Students’ feelings and experiences
Sun Yi, a 2021 business English student:
I am responsible for receiving foreign guests participating in the forum at the entrance of the Peace International Hospital. The work includes confirming the identity of the guests, scanning the epidemic prevention code, measuring the body temperature, and guiding the guests into the main venue. I had a very fulfilling and happy day today. I not only exercised my English skills, but also increased my knowledge.
Ling Jingxuan, a 2022 foreign language and literature student:
It is a great honor to participate in the volunteer service of the World Young Scientist Summit as a bilingual volunteer. I am mainly responsible for the reception and guidance of guests. This is a very meaningful experience. I can apply the knowledge I have learned to practice and exercise my listening and speaking skills.
Hu Duoduo, a 2021 business English student:
It is a great honor to participate in the reception of this forum as a volunteer, and to have the opportunity to communicate with foreign friends. For me, as a business English major student, this is a good opportunity to exercise. I hope I will have the opportunity to participate next time, exercise and improve my social practice ability.
