Wenzhou Buziness College was selected as the Inheritance and Innovation Base College of Chinese Arts and Crafts Masters at the 2023 Chinese Arts and Crafts Master Working Conference held on July 18th in Yichun, Heilongjiang Province. It is another national-level platform in the field of art and design established by our college since being approved as the Innovation Design Institute (Handicraft Field) by the China Industrial Design Association last year.
The Inheritance and Innovation Base College of Chinese Arts and Crafts Masters is a national cooperative project organized by the China Federation of Light Industry to provide a collaborative platform for arts and crafts masters and base colleges, aiming to enhance the cultivation of professional talents and promote industrial innovation and development. It is reported that the China Academy of Art, Luxun Academy of Fine Arts, Tongji University, etc., are selected in the same batch.
The base is officially operated by the School of Media and Design Arts in our college. In recent years, the school has been continuously exploring application-oriented teaching reforms for the innovative integration of art and business, with an active response to the construction of Wenzhou as the cultural capital of East Asia in the fields of communication and design. Our disciplines of design and journalism were selected for the establishment of master’s degree programs by the Zhejiang Provincial Academic Degrees Committee, while product design and environment design majors were selected as First-Class Undergraduate Major Construction Points in Zhejiang Province. Additionally, 18 courses, including Creative Product Design, were selected as first-class undergraduate courses in Zhejiang Province.
The Arts and Crafts major offered by our college serves as a distinctive advantage in Wenzhou, based on traditional intangible cultural heritage techniques and specializing in fashion design such as decorative design and trendy play design. It incorporates innovation and entrepreneurship education as the main theme throughout the four-year curriculum with its goal to cultivate professionals who possess a business-oriented mindset and a modern craftsperson spirit.
The graduates are equipped to engage in fashion craft design research and development, digital inheritance of intangible cultural heritage, decorative and trendy product design and marketing in the field of cultural and creative derivative design and traditional craftsmanship, as well as in design companies, cultural departments, and other enterprises and institutions. They shall be high-quality composite arts and crafts design talents who can serve the local cultural industry with their international perspective and have embarked on a unique development path.
