At 4:55 p.m., February 9, a group of five people from Cangnan 1+1 Emergency Rescue Center, flew from Wenzhou Longwan International Airport to Guangzhou, and then transferred to arrive in the earthquake-stricken areas of Turkey. Among them, the youngest team member came from our college’s sophomore Cai Jia Cheng, who followed his fathe to participate in cross-border rescue.
Since February 6, Turkey has been hit by a series of strong earthquakes, causing heavy casualties and property losses. It is reported that as of 3:00 a.m. on February 9, the death toll from the earthquake in Turkey rose to 12,391, with another 62,914 people injured.
“Rescue without borders!” The rescue center was informed of the earthquake in Turkey, immediately contacted the domestic rescue organizations and disaster aid agencies. After a hot discussion, a total of 10 team members participated in this rescue. The first batch incldes 5 people.
Cai Jiacheng is a student of the School of Media and Design Arts of WZBC of 2021, majoring in network journalism and communication, who joined this civil emergency rescue organization in 2019. His father, Cai Jingqiu, joined the organization in 2008 and is now the deputy director of the executive committee, with certificates such as National Emergency Rescuer. Cai Jiacheng grew up with his father’s various rescue work, and has followed his father to participate in disaster rescue and rescue volunteer service many times since 2020. He joined Red Cross Student Union during the college period, got a certificate of ambulance, and has participated in Wenzhou South Station epidemic prevention and control and other voluntary service activities.
During this cross-country rescue, Cangnan County 1+1 Emergency Rescue Center carried part of the rescue equipment, including 2 sets of cutter, 1 impact drill, 1 rebar speed cutter, 2 sets of life detector, 1 drone, personal protective equipment, emergency lighting equipment and so on. According to the itinerary planning, they departed from Guangzhou in the early morning on February 10 and arrived in Istanbul, firstly registered at the Chinese rescue base camp, and then carried out the next rescue according to the deployment of the base camp.
“The day before yesterday, I heard that my father was going to Turkey to participate in the earthquake rescue, I immediately asked to go together, at first my father did not say anything, my mother and the team leader did not agree until I persuaded them for many times.” The night before the departure, father and son talked very late at night, the father repeatedly explained the rescue knowledge and precautions, and urged his son to pay attention to their own safety at first, so that they can save others better.
“My father is my model, we are father and son in life , but we are comrades in arms on the rescue scene.” Cai Jiacheng said, “The new era of college students should have social responsibility to bear, do some public welfare activities with their utmost capacity.” After arriving in the earthquake zone in Turkey, he will be arranged to China's social forces to participate in the Turkish earthquake response coordination base camp to carry out logistical support work, and rescue time is expected to be half a month.
Learned that Cai Jia Cheng followed his father to Turkey to participate in the earthquake rescue assistant principal Hu Jiang and his entourage saw him off with flowers, urging him to protect themselves during rescue, and his new semester of study will be properly arranged.
It is reported that WZBC has always attached great importance to the education of students’ love and sense of social responsibility.There were many typical groups and individuals come from our college, such as the Chinese Red Cross Star, the youngest hematopoietic stem cell donor in the province, and the National Volunteer Service Demonstration Team and so on.
