Our college held the 2023 WZBC Wenzhou Entrepreneurs Forum and the establishment ceremony of the Wenzhou Entrepreneurs Institute on the morning of April 3rd. With the theme of “Wenzhou Entrepreneurs and China’s development”, the forum was attended by Danilo Türk, former President of Slovenia and Chairman of the World Leaders Alliance; Guo Huawei, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the Provincial Federation of Social Sciences; Chen Yingxu, Vice Mayor of Wenzhou, and other people from all walks of life at home and abroad, to provide advice and suggestions for the development of Wenzhou entrepreneurs, Wenzhou city and China in the new era. The forum will be chaired by Xie Jian, the director of the academic committee of the university.
Zhou Xiangzhe, Executive President and Secretary of the Party Committee, said in his speech that Wenzhou is an important node city of the millennium commercial port and the Maritime Silk Road. Since the reform and opening up, Wenzhou businessmen have given a full play of the “four thousand spirit” and initiated the well renowned “Wenzhou model”, making Wenzhou a pioneer area of China’s reform and opening up and an important birthplace of private economy. Wenzhou Business College was founded by Mr. Zhang Hanming that has always adhered to the principle of non-profit school running and cultivating the characteristics of entrepreneurship education. It has been recognized as the sample of entrepreneurship education for college students by China Education Television and other media. We devotes whole heartedly to holding the forum of “Wenzhou Entrepreneurs and China’s Development” and establishing Wenzhou Entrepreneurs Institute, aiming to further study and implement the spirit of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the National Two Sessions, and make greater contributions to promote high-quality development in Wenzhou.
Mr. Danilo Türk has been to Wenzhou Business College five years ago and feels happy to have the honor to visit our college again. Firmly optimistic about the future development of China, he pointed out that after the COVID-19 epidemic, the global economy was in a very serious difficult period, as the world economy was recovering yet at a slow, weak and unstable pace. He said the global economy would possibly grow by less than 3% in 2023, 75% of which would occur in Asia with a large proportion from China. In that way, China’s contribution to global development is enormous, and we need to seize this opportunity and make necessary preparations.
Chen Yingxu, vice mayor of Wenzhou City, said in his speech that Wenzhou entrepreneurs are the most active participants of China’s reform and opening up for more than 40 years. At present, there are 2.45 million Wenzhou people engaged in businesses in more than 130 countries worldwide. Wenzhou entrepreneurs turn out to be the biggest advantage and most valuable wealth for Wenzhou’s development. Wenzhou Business College was founded by the Wenzhou entrepreneur, which makes it a much more unique and significant exploration to hold the Wenzhou Business Forum here to further study the spirit and probe the future of Wenzhou entrepreneurs. It is also the school’s proactive responsibility to inherit culture, carry forward the cultural tradition, and serve society. He expected experts and scholars at home and abroad to offer advice and suggestions for Wenzhou’s economic and social development with a global vision and forward-looking awareness, to work together for a new pattern of high-quality development in Wenzhou, and to create a new glory of Chinese path to modernization in Wenzhou.
In the keynote speech segment, Mr. Martin Jacques firstly addressed on the modernization process in the West, and then referred to the three stages of China’s modernization process since 1949 in his lecture titled as The Impact 0f Chinese Path to Modernization on the World in an Age of Uncertainty. He believed Chinese path to modernization has upgraded from version 2.0 to 3.0 since 2010, mainly characterized with the domination of technology. Currently China is in a leading position in the world in many areas where Chinese elements are gradually playing a more important role while foreign elements is turning out to be less influential. The impact of Chinese path to modernization lies not only in the economic field, but also in a wide range of social levels. This is a modernization path that the West has never encountered before, which is believed to be definitely achieved in China.
Wang Yiming, Former Deputy Director of the Development Research Center of the State Council, said that the world economy is currently experiencing profound shifts unseen in a century. China has embarked on a new journey with Chinese characteristics, and Wenzhou has entered a critical period of transformation and upgrading. Promoting the comprehensive practice with high-quality development is the mission of Wenzhou entrepreneurs in the future. Faced with challenges from new energy technology and digital technology, it is an important issue for the Wenzhou Enterpreneurs Institue to dig further on whether Wenzhou enterpreneurs can maintain their pioneer spirit to keep developing ahead of the times and endeavor to achieve new breakthroughs in technological innovation.
Wang Wen, Executive Dean of Chongyang Finance Research Institute, Renmin University of China, said that as one of the earliest opened-up coastal cities, Wenzhou’s development reflected the process of Chinese-style modernization, and Wenzhou entrepreneurs should make greater contributions to the continuing success of Chinese path to modernization in the future which is believed to have made new contributions to mankind’s exploration on modernization. The development in China is a process of “problems - reforms - developments - new problems - new reforms - new developments”, which proves the fact that it is the existence of problems that drives the forward development ultimately.
Wu Aiqi, Vice President of the Global Zhejiang Entrepreneurs Research Institute at Zhejiang University, analyzed the competitive advantages of those Wenzhou enterprises with specialization, refinement, characterization and innovation. He also proposed relevant suggestions from both the enterprise and government levels in his lecture Measures for the Path of Wenzhou to Build a City with High Level specialization, refinement, characterization and innovation. He pointed out that in recent years, Wenzhou has accelerated the cultivation and development of characteristically strategic emerging industrial clusters such as new energy, new materials, and life and health, and has now formed 14 municipal industrial chains, which can better empower the development of the enterprises related to the industrial chain to be better specialized, refined, characterized and innovated.
Dr. Zhang Yan, President of the UK’s Airitai Think Tank, combined with his overseas study experience, suggested that with the establishment of the Wenzhou Enterpreneurs Institue, it was quite necessary to integrate talent needs in a global scale to support students in finding internships and entrepreneurial opportunities in different countries and regions, while attracting senior talents to settle in Wenzhou, thus achieving a mutually beneficial “two-way rush”.
At the forum, experts and scholars at home and abroad analyzed the current political and economic situation from the perspective of globalization, and interpreted the development path of Wenzhou and Wenzhou entrepreneurs from the perspective of macroeconomic indicators to Microeconomic foundations, winning great appreciation from the audiences. The experts and scholars also took their own experiences and achievements as examples to encourage the Wenzhou entrepreneurs community to seize the opportunity of private economic development, inherit and carry forward the Four Thousand spirit to create new brilliance in the Wenzhou model, which has aroused great resonance between on-site students and the new generation of entrepreneurs in Wenzhou. Later, Danilo Türk and Martin Jacques later attended two salons held by the college to have face-to-face exchanges with students.
Meanwhile our college held the official unveiling ceremony for the inauguration of the Wenzhou Entrepreneurs Institute, which aims to embrace the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation on all fronts with social background of Chinese path to modernization and carry out the further study on Wenzhou entrepreneurs to carry forward the spirit of Chinese reform and opening up. It would also help to promote Wenzhou to continue its history of innovation for the common prosperity and build a more dynamic and harmonious city as a millennium commercial port.
Qiao Wei, former Vice Chairman of the China Federation of Returned Overseas Chinese, and others attended the forum and delivered a speech. Guo Huawei, Secretary of the Party Group of the Zhejiang Federation of Social Sciences, delivered his speech via video. In all, over 200 people have attended the forum, including those representatives from Wenzhou universities, entrepreneurs, and students of Wenzhou Business College.
