On May 21, the 8th Zhejiang University Athletics Championships closed in Hangzhou. After 4 days of fierce competition, WZBC’s track and field team performed outstandingly among the 89 teams. WZBC’s team won the sixth place, and the men’s team won the third place in the undergraduate group A. Our students broke many records in individual events.
In the Men’s Group A 100m and 200m individual competitions, Hu Bote, a student from the School of Management, won the third and first place with a time of 10.97 seconds and 22.21 seconds respectively, and broke the competition record. This is the second time for him to participate in the Zhejiang University Athletics Championships. Compared with last year, the result this time has improved by 1.2 seconds, which is only 0.2 seconds behind the national first-level athlete.
Jin Qijia, a student from the School of Finance and Trade, also broke the record. He won the championship with a score of 15:44.10 in the 5,000-meter final of the Men’s Group A and finished fifth in the 1,500-meter final of the Men’s Group A.
The women’s track and field team also achieved good results. Zhou Jiayi, a student from the School of International Studies, won the third and eighth place respectively in the 100-meter and 200-meter individual events of the Women’s Group A. Together with Hu Bote, Jin Qijia won the title of “Outstanding Athlete of the 8th Zhejiang University Athletics Championships”.
In the team competition, the athletes of WZBC gave full play to their sportsmanship, trusted and encouraged each other, and finally achieved excellent results. The four-person team composed of Zhou Xuanhao, Hu Bote, Lu Cun, and Zhou Yuxiao successfully defended the provincial championship with a time of 43.28 seconds in the 4×100-meter relay race! In the 4×400m final, Zhou Xuanhao, Lu Cun, Wu Junnan, and Huang Jie won the seventh place, breaking the best record in the history of WZBC in this event.
It is reported that the athletes of track and field team put in a lot of hard work and sweat before the competition. They had 6 training sessions a week, and no one complained of suffering or tiredness. During the competition, the experienced players taught the new players their pre-match experience and made suggestions, fully embodying the spirit of hard work, unity and cooperation. In addition, the excellent results in this competition also attribute to the coachs’ careful teaching and strong logistical support.
