The 2024 World Young Scientist Summit (WYSS) was recently held in Wenzhou, under the theme "Gathering Global Talent for a Better Future." The summit welcomed over 900 guests, including nearly 300 international participants. Nearly 100 "Little Ougan" volunteers from our university actively supported the event, providing warm and dedicated services to Nobel laureates, young scientists, professors, entrepreneurs, and other distinguished guests, earning high praise from the organizers.
During the summit, our university’s youth volunteers took on various roles, including liaison and communication, guest transportation, on-site interpretation, and guided tours. They successfully hosted nearly 200 guest interactions in total.
The "Little Ougan" volunteers greeted every guest with enthusiasm and professionalism. Leveraging their strong language skills, they delivered accurate and fluent interpretation services for international attendees, facilitating cross-cultural communication and cooperation. With their patience, responsiveness, and proactive coordination, the volunteers resolved various challenges faced by the guests during the event, providing efficient and thoughtful service that received widespread acclaim.
"This is my second time serving as a volunteer for the WYSS, and this year’s experience was especially meaningful. I had the rare opportunity to interact closely with Nobel Laureate Konstantin Novoselov, which has been a highlight of my volunteering journey," shared Ma Zuan, a student from the School of Information Engineering. According to Ma, youth volunteers benefit immensely from serving high-level events, as they get to engage with leaders in the scientific community, gain unique insights, witness the nation's development, and connect with the pulse of the times.
It is worth noting that our university has been providing volunteer services for the World Young Scientist Summit for five consecutive years. The volunteers, dedicated to their roles, honed their skills, adhered to management protocols, and ensured safety throughout the event. By integrating individual efforts into the collective good, they showcased the sense of responsibility and commitment of youth in the new era on an international platform.
