On the afternoon of November 16, Dirk Lambrecht, the Head of 3D Animation at the Digital Arts and Entertainment Faculty of Howest University of Applied Sciences in Belgium and a distinguished guest of the 2024 World Young Scientist Summit, visited our university to deliver an academic lecture titled "Digital Arts and Entertainment: Innovation Through the Ages." The lecture was conducted entirely in English.
During his talk, Mr. Lambrecht traced the development of 3D animation and showcased some of his remarkable works. In the early 1990s, at the dawn of the digital age, he transitioned from being a traditional 2D animator to the 3D animation field, quickly adapting to new tools and technologies. Driven by his passion for digital media arts, he became one of Belgium's pioneers in computer-generated imagery (CGI). He encouraged students to acquire a broad knowledge base during their university years and to approach open-ended challenges in animation production with flexibility. He emphasized that innovation is key in design—whether in 3D animation or game art—and urged students to strive for continuous transformation, ensuring their work captivates audiences and players alike.
During the Q&A session, faculty and students engaged in discussions on trending topics such as the integration of AI with digital media arts and the differences between film animation and game animation. Drawing on his profound academic knowledge and extensive practical experience, Mr. Lambrecht provided insightful answers, sparking a lively atmosphere. Participants expressed that they found the session highly rewarding.
Prior to the lecture, Huang Yuye, Party Secretary of the School of Media and Design Arts, presented Mr. Lambrecht with an appointment certificate as a visiting professor.
During his visit, Mr. Lambrecht, accompanied by Chen Jiong-jiong, Deputy Director of the Zhejiang Association for Science and Technology’s International Exchange Center, toured the university’s Entrepreneurship Education Pavilion. He gained an in-depth understanding of Wenzhou’s history and culture, the university’s development, and its distinctive approach to entrepreneurship education. Praising the university’s efforts and achievements in this field, he expressed hope for future opportunities for collaboration and exchange.
