Recently, the World Industrial Design Conference co-sponsored by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Government of Shandong Province was held in Yantai, Shandong Province. And the launch ceremony of the “Innovative Design Research Institute of China Industrial Design Association” was held at the same time. The School of Media and Art Design of WZBC was identified as the first batch of “Innovative Design Research Institute of China Industrial Design Association (handicraft)”.

The Innovative Design Research Institute of China Industrial Association is evaluated by China Industrial Design Association, aiming to establish an innovative carrier with extensive influence and remarkable achievements in boosting the industrial economy, giving full play to the value of design, and highlighting industry characteristics, so as to strengthen the construction of China’s industrial design innovation system. It creates a number of platforms to support industrial design innovation, and promotes high-level, high-quality, holistic and systematic development of the industry. The first batch of recognized universities include Zhejiang University, Tongji University, Nanjing University of the Arts, China Academy of Art, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Jiangnan University, Shandong Institute of Arts and Design, etc.

In recent years, based on Wenzhou, the School of Media and Art Design of WZBC has focused on cultivating local, characteristic, and application-oriented design talents, digging deep the connotation and contemporary value of “Intangible Cultural Heritage” and “Yongjia School” to serve local economic and social development.

The School of Media and Art Design currently has 1 master of Chinese arts and crafts, 2 leading talents of traditional crafts in Zhejiang Province Talents Program, 1 Guanghua Longteng Innovation Design Award winner, and four major Research and Innovation Center including “handicraft art research and creation, digital art, intelligent manufacturing, and art communication”. Among them, the majors of product design and environmental design have been successively selected as the first-class professional construction sites in Zhejiang Province, and have undertaken many national-level creative and scientific research projects, such as the National Art Fund, the National Social Science Fund, Design Award/ best of best, International Design Excellence Awards and many other awards. In 2021, the School of Media and Art Design, Wenzhou Arts and Crafts Research Institute and Wenzhou Arts and Crafts Industry Association jointly built “the School of Wenzhou Arts and Crafts”, focusing on promoting the deep integration of industries, enterprises and majors.
